Instruction Bible Verses

Instruction Bible Verses

What the Lord gives us, and what he requires of us:

Let God show through you to others:
Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it gives light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Dead to sin, alive to God:
Romans 6:10,11 For in that He died, He died unto sin once: but in that He lives, He lives unto God. Likewise reckon also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
How to tell who is really Christ's:
Romans 8:5-7,9 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death: but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. But your are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.
How to easily fulfill the law:
Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loves another has fulfilled the law.
We should be generous, just as God is:
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 But this I say, "He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give: not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abount toward you; that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."
What we say should benefit those who hear us:
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
How to please the Spirit:
Ephesians 4:30-32 And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be you kind one to another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake has forgiven you.
Our righteousness is a light shining in a dark world:
Philippians 2:14-16a Do all things without murmurings and disputings, that you may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life.
Ask God with thanks and don't worry:
Philippians 4:6,7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Think on good things which glorify God:
Philippians 4:8,9 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Those things, which you have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
What to put off, and what to put on:
Colossians 3:5-10 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: for which things' sake the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience: in the which you also walked sometime, when you lived in them. But now you also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in the knowledge after the image of Him that created him.
Be active in sharing the faith to fully understand Christ and His blessings:
Philemon 6 (NIV) I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.
Fix your thought on Jesus:
Hebrews 3:1 (NIV) Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
Fight Satan to be rid of him, go near to God to be close to Him:
James 4:7,8 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
To avoid living in ignorance, be sober, and be holy as He who called us:
1 Peter 1:13-16 Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: but as He which has called you is holy, so be you holy in all manner of conversation; because it is written, "Be you holy; for I am holy."
Our evil desires war against our souls:
1 Peter 2:11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.
Help others to assure your heart to Jesus:
1 John 2:5,6 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.
Stay away from sin, and God will keep you from the enemy:
1 John 5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.

The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments

The Ten Commandments are laws that God gave to Moses while he was leading Israel out of Egypt to the Promised Land. God spoke to Moses at the top of Mount Sinai, in a cloud of fire, and engraved His laws on stone tablets. The Commandments are simple moral statutes which, if followed, would eliminate most sin.
The Ten Commandments are found in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21.

1.You shall have no other gods before Me.
-Exodus 20:3
2.You shall not make unto yourself any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down yourself to them nor serve them. For I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me; and showing mercy to thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.
-Exodus 20:4-6
3.You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain: for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that takes His name in vain.
-Exodus 20:7
4.Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in the six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
-Exodus 20:8-11
And remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt, and the LORD your God brought you out of there through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm; therefore the LORD your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
-Deuteronomy 5:15
5.Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God gives you.
-Exodus 20:12
6.You shall not kill.
-Exodus 20:13
7.You shall not commit adultery.
-Exodus 20:14
8.You shall not steal.
-Exodus 20:15
9.You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
-Exodus 20:16
10.You shall not covet your neighbor's house, you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his manervant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.
-Exodus 20:17

Jesus gave us two commands which sum up all of the ten commandments. Found in Matthew 22:37,39, these commands are:
1. You will love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.
2. You will love your neighbor as yourself.
If you love the Lord, you won't break commandments 1-4, and if you love other people, you won't break commandments 5-10.
